Wyndham City is thrilled to announce the active participation of our local schools in the upcoming National Ride2School Day, scheduled for 22 March 2024.
As thousands of students across the city prepare to ride, scoot, skate, or walk to school, the event promises to be a vibrant celebration of active travel.
Ride2School, a nationwide program facilitated by Bicycle Network, is designed to empower, and encourage schools to promote physical activity among students during their journeys to school.
This initiative aligns with Wyndham City's commitment to fostering healthy habits and active lifestyles among its youth.
This nationwide event has played a pivotal role in supporting thousands of schools, empowering students to adopt physically active modes of transportation to school.
In the state of Victoria alone, a record-breaking 500 schools participated in the festivities last year, showcasing the growing impact of the initiative.
Councillor Adele Hegedich, Wyndham City’s Healthy City Portfolio Holder expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, explaining that the Ride2school program encourages physical activity and helps to instil healthy habits in our children, as well as promoting a sense of community.
“We are thrilled to witness the engagement of children in our community in the National Ride2School Day initiative,” Cr Hegedich said.
“It is heartening to see our young residents embracing active travel, not only for their physical well-being but also as a collective effort to build a healthier and more connected community,”
The participation of local schools in National Ride2School Day aligns seamlessly with Wyndham City's Active Transport Strategy, contributing to our efforts to connect our path network and promote the widespread use of active transport for a sustainable and healthier future.
It also supports Council’s Active Travel to Schools program longer term.
