To celebrate the Centenary of the Country Women's Association (CWA), Wanneroo Regional Museum has partnered with the CWA Wanneroo branch to present a touching photography and memorabilia display that showcases their history.
Artefacts on display include wool boots and vests sent overseas for the war effort, and residents can trawl old membership lists to check for mums, aunties or grandmothers' names.
Well known for their top notch scones, the CWA also has a long history of strengthening communities through advocacy, education, service and belonging - from starting the Women’s Land Army to advocating for the importance of car seatbelts.
The late Margaret Cockman, Freeman of the City, helped form the Wanneroo CWA branch in the 1960s.
When the State Country Women’s Association resolved to build CWA House in Perth, a Country Woman of the Year Quest was held to help raise funds for the building.
Margaret entered as the Wanneroo representative and went on to win the CWA Cash Queen title for raising the most money in the State!
