Federation Council is excited to announce that applications are open to all residents from 15 and over for the 2024 Sister City Program exchange visit to Miki City, Japan.
Coinciding with the Autumn Festival, the exchange is anticipated to take place between the 28th September and the 12th October (actual dates during this period to be confirmed). Residents expressing interest must be available for travel between these dates, with the duration of the stay approximately 9 days of homestay plus additional travel time to and from Miki City.
The delegation will be treated to local family homestays for the duration of the visit and a full daily program of activities being hosted by Miki City.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Patrick Bourke said, “This year Council is encouraging any residents who may have an interest in learning about the Japanese culture, building community and business relationships, connecting with community members, young people and students 15 and over, as well as potential chaperones, to apply”.
Federation Council has had a long-standing sister city relationship with Miki City, now in its 27th year, providing community members from both countries the opportunity to continue building on the strong relationship.
“Each year participants have thoroughly enjoyed the visits, full of exciting experiences including participating in traditional tea ceremonies, wearing of a Kimono and this year a visit to the Autumn Festival, plus lots more!”
Cr Bourke also added, “Participants have experienced a different culture first hand and built special lifelong friendships.”
Miki City, with a population of around 77,000 people, is located in Western Honshu, Japan. It is known for production of quality blacksmithing and metal hardware, which is in demand worldwide. Miki City residents are proud of their culture, love their sport including golf and tennis, their variety of festivals and of course their food.
