A new community hall was officially opened this month after the City leased Scouts WA vacant land in Tapping.

The Carramar Scout Group previously operated out of St Stephen’s School and had been on the search for permanent premises.

The City granted a long-term lease to Scouts WA on a rent-free basis, while the State Government provided $3.4 million to build the new facility, which will be available for local community groups to hire.

Mayor Linda Aitken said the Carramar Scout Group Community Hall would provide a home for one of the State's largest Scout groups.

“The City has worked closely with Scouts WA over the last two years and we are excited to be able to offer land to such a worthwhile community group,” she said.

“This new facility not only benefits our local Scouts but also other grassroots community groups who will be able to book this space.

“Over the next 20 years, more than 150,000 new residents are predicted to call the City of Wanneroo home and we are committed to creating liveable communities by providing health and wellbeing opportunities through facilities like this.”

Youth Minister Hannah Beazley said the State Government was proud to support community organisations such as Scouts WA.

“The Carramar Scout Group, which has more than 100 members, finally has a new home after having no permanent gathering place since it began in 2014,” she said.

“The Scout program offers an amazing opportunity for young people to learn essential life skills and teamwork, which sets them up for the future.”

The large hall space also includes a meeting room, serving area, accessible toilets and a large outdoor area featuring nature play.
