From July 2024, the City will transition to a new way of collecting bulk junk and green waste, with bookable verge collections replacing the current scheduled bulk household and green waste service.

Bookable verge collections have a range of benefits, including allowing residents to book collections at a time convenient for them, and helping the City increase resource recovery and send less waste to landfill.

The new service also aims to reduce illegal dumping and scavenging and keep streets tidier by reducing the length of time waste is presented on the verge.

Under the system, every eligible residential property will be entitled to one collection of each of the following per financial year:

bulk hard waste – up to 3m3  bulk green waste – up to 3m3  mattresses – up to 3 items  white goods – up to 4 items  e-waste – up to 6 items

Items must be placed on the property’s verge, ready for collection up to three days before the booked collection date.

The booking system for the new service opens on 4 June 2024, with collections starting on 1 July 2024.

Scheduled verge collections for green waste only will continue until 30 June 2024. See the schedule for the remaining dates.
