Children aged five to fifteen are invited to the free clinics, where they will be taught how to play football, netball, tennis and cricket. Each sport will have a 30 minute session, with a 20 minute morning tea break in between.

Children attending will only need to bring their own water bottle. For the parents, there will be a free coffee van on the day.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said Council were excited to host the free clinics during the school holidays, highlighting the community benefit it brings to the region.

“It is great to see these free clinics being run during the school holidays. Council aims to provide an opportunity for all children to participate and enjoy,” he said.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for kids to get out there and try something new. These clinics provide a shared experience that strengthens community bonds and builds a sense of belonging among our residents.”

Greater Shepparton City Councils Manager of Flood Recovery, Carla Dixon, said “the idea of junior sports clinics came from all Community Recovery Committees actively working to build their communities back post the October 2022 flood event. Committee members wanted to build on their existing assets (recreation reserves) and provide a free and accessible opportunity to all children and young people in Greater Shepparton. The activity will provide an opportunity for all families to receive disaster recovery information and build their knowledge of the support that is available post the October 2022 floods.

As it is a disaster recovery event, it was able to be funded by State Government’s Community Recovery Hubs program fund” she said.
