Central Highlands Regional Council will soon install smart water meters throughout Capella, thanks to funding provided by the Local Government Smart Services Program (LGSSP).
‘The installation of smart meters in Capella is a significant step towards modernising our utility services and enhancing overall efficiency of resource management within the community,’ said Acting CEO Ross Higgins.
‘We will try to make the transition as smooth as possible with minimal disruptions, and we encourage anyone with questions or concerns to reach out to the council.
‘We will also be introducing a customer portal that will empower residents to better manage their utility usage thanks to real-time data.’
Preparation works
Preparation works will commence on Monday 15 April in various locations across town and are expected to last 4 weeks. Some residents will have their meters raised during the preparation works. This will result in some water interruption for a short period. Affected residents will be notified individually via letter.
Smart meter installation
The installation of smart meters is scheduled to begin on Monday 29 April and is anticipated to take 4 weeks to complete. Residents will be notified in advance of any work taking place on their property to ensure minimal disruption.
Customer portal
In line with the rollout of the smart meters, a dedicated customer portal will be made available to Capella residents from mid-June 2024.
This portal will provide users with real-time data on their water usage, allowing for better management and conservation of resources. Detailed instructions on how to access and navigate the portal will be communicated to residents closer to the launch date. Council will also hold a drop-in session at Capella to run interested residents through how to use the portal. Details around this session will be released closer to the date.

‘We thank the residents of Capella for their cooperation and support as we work towards a smarter, more sustainable future,’ Mr Higgins said.
