Thanks to funding from Healthway, the City of Rockingham, in partnership with the South Metropolitan Health Service Health Promotion team and Western Australian School Canteen Association, has collaborated to create positive health environments at its four major leisure facilities: Mike Barnett Sports Complex, Rockingham Aquatic Centre, Aqua Jetty and Baldivis Indoor Sports Complex.
To promote healthier eating options in line with the City’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy, the City has implemented a range of initiatives to assist patrons to evaluate their food and drink choices based on nutritional value. We have installed new “Grab the Good” signs at the venues, reviewed the menu items and reduced the number of unhealthy "red" items, and created new physical menus and digital menus that incorporate the traffic light system (green, amber and red food choices).
As a result of these initiatives, all of the City of Rockingham’s main leisure facilities are now considered a Healthy Venue.
Offering healthy food and drink options at our local leisure facilities has a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of our community,” said Mayor Deb Hamblin. The City welcomes your feedback on the new signs, menus and drink options so we can continue to offer a great selection in line with the traffic light system, and assist our community to “Grab the Good” while attending our recreation facilities.
