$1.4m Project Drives Road Safety, Commuter Efficiency Improvements

Road users in Floreat and West Leederville can now enjoy smoother journeys as the Town of Cambridge proudly announces the successful completion of its road resurfacing project for the 2023-24 period.

With a commitment to maintaining its infrastructure, the Town has undertaken a meticulous process to enhance the quality and longevity of its roads.

Managing an extensive network of 190 kilometres of sealed roads and lanes, the resurfacing program prioritised areas based on surface age and condition. Scheduled at intervals ranging from 15 to 35 years, each section received tailored attention to address specific issues such as rutting, cracking, and surface repairs.

Since November 2023, the resurfacing team has completed significant works to Berkeley Crescent, Caithness and Hornsey Roads, Linden Gardens, Orrel (top image) and Kirkdale Avenues in Floreat to St Leonards Avenue in West Leederville, delivering smoother, quieter, and safer pavements for commuters.

Noteworthy among the completed projects is the transformation of Kirkdale Avenue, where the roots of a large eucalyptus tree posed a potential hazard to pedestrians. As part of the resurfacing initiative, the footpath was realigned away from the tree, ensuring both safety and environmental stewardship.

The key project benefits for the community include noise reduction, reduced maintenance, improved drainage, and an extended lifespan for the roads. By improving ride quality and enhancing the overall infrastructure, the Town has invested in the present while securing a more sustainable future for its community.
