Residents are encouraged to have their say on the Draft Gannawarra Shire Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2024-2029, which outlines Council’s obligations to prevent public health risk and contamination of the environment from the disposal of domestic wastewater.
Approved to proceed to community engagement period at Council’s April 2024 meeting, the document is the third onsite wastewater management plan developed by Council, and will replace the most recent version of the document, developed in 2020.
“The Draft Gannawarra Shire Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2024-2029 assists Council’s Environmental Health Officers to fulfil their delegated responsibilities in the assessment of domestic wastewater systems operating, or intending to be installed, within the municipality and to provide appropriate strategies and actions to manage issues relating to onsite wastewater management,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“The latest version of this important document includes regulatory changes and key strategic actions that have been achieved since 2020, including the installation or expansion of town sewerage systems in Cohuna, Koondrook, Leitchville and Murrabit.
“The development of the Draft Gannawarra Shire Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2024-2029 also links closely to Council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy, Arbovirus Plan, Urban and Rural Strategy Plan, Lake Charm, Kangaroo Lake and Gunbower Creek Environs Strategy, and the Shire of Gannawarra Planning Scheme.”
