Wyndham City is urging residents to acknowledge the important work that School Crossing Supervisors do with a nomination for ‘School Crossing Supervisor of the Year 2023/2024’.
Wyndham Mayor, Cr Jennie Barrera, said the awards were held by School Crossings Victoria and are a great opportunity to recognise the contribution supervisors provide to the wider school community.
“Rain or shine local School Crossing Supervisors step out, showing dedication to keeping our children and residents safe,” she said.
“We often hear about our lovely Wyndham School Crossing Supervisors and the great work they do, now’s the time to give your local School Crossing Supervisor the recognition they deserve by nominating them for an award.”
“It’s hard to think there was a time without School Crossing Supervisors, the role was first introduced in 1973 (although school crossings were introduced some time after World War II).”
“Their work was introduced to prevent accidents and fatalities that took place near schools. They continue to guide children and we call on drivers to continue to respect supervisors, to slow down at a crossing and keep kids safe at the school gate.”
