Wyndham City invites community feedback on the refreshed draft Werribee City Centre Plan. The draft Plan incorporates feedback provided as part of community consultations in 2023.
Highlights include:
A refreshed City Centre vision highlighting Werribee’s strengths and role as part of the ‘heart’ of Wyndham Incorporating major attractions such as Werribee Racecourse and Eagle Stadium Fine-tuning planning controls to ensure the new City Centre buildings integrate well with residential areas, heritage assets, streetscapes and parks, for improved amenity Updated strategies to make the City Centre even more accessible, attractive, vibrant and community focused. Creation of a new draft Streetscape Framework and Design Manual to guide the streetscape upgrades desired by the community.Wyndham City’s Deputy Mayor and City Design portfolio holder, Cr Josh Gilligan, said Wyndham is one of the fastest growing regions in Victoria with Werribee City Centre at its heart.
“The forecast population for the region by 2040 of 505,822 will make it bigger than the current size of Canberra.”
“We’re a growing community and the City Centre needs to grow with the community. The refreshed Werribee City Centre Plan is designed to help shape that growth in a way the community prefers,” he said.
“Planning for growth is important as Werribee is acknowledged as a Major Activity Centre and part of the Werribee National Employment and Innovation Cluster by the State Government.”
“The Werribee City Centre has attracted a number of hospitality and accommodation businesses, which have increased by 37% since pre-COVID levels in 2019, with ten new businesses opening in the last 12 months.”
“This brings us to 118 dining and accommodation businesses in Werribee City Centre, with the bustling City Centre servicing a population of 324,087 and an annual domestic and international visitation of more than 1.5 million.”
“Many of these local business owners, cut their teeth in city venues and have chosen to bring their experience and passion back to their own neighbourhood here in Werribee, particularly in relation to our restaurant scene in Watton Street.”
“I thank all those who participated in the first round of consultation on this project in 2023 – based on your suggestions we’re planning for an even more vibrant and attractive City Centre that continues to be a place everyone loves to visit.”
