The Town of Cambridge is excited to announce a new partnership with Beam Mobility, introducing a shared e-scooter service from 24 April 2024 to enhance local transportation options.
This innovative 12-month trial will make up to 120 e-scooters available along the scenic City Beach Coast, providing an eco-friendly and convenient way for residents and visitors to explore the area.
E-scooters are motorised scooters that users can rent through a smartphone app, providing a flexible transportation alternative to traditional vehicles. The e-scooters will be accessible from key coastal locations including City Beach, Floreat Beach, and Peasholm Dog Beach.
Mayor Gary Mack expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the initiative as part of the Town’s commitment to sustainable development and reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Beam Mobility to bring this environmental transportation solution to Cambridge. This service offers a fun and efficient way to travel and aligns with our environmental goals,” he said.
“We believe that the introduction of e-scooters will significantly enhance the vibrancy and accessibility of our coastal community.”
To use the e-scooters, riders need to download the Beam app, locate a nearby e-scooter, and scan the QR code on the handlebar to unlock it. The service operates 24/7, ensuring everyone has access to sustainable transport at any time. After use, riders can park the e-scooters at designated parking spots, ensuring they are ready for the next user.
As part of this trial, we invite all interested individuals to join us for a training session on 4 May at City Beach Carpark C308 from 12pm to 3pm, where they can learn how to safely operate the e-scooters and ask any questions.
The introduction of the e-scooter sharing service is expected to provide a significant boost to local tourism and business by making the coastal attractions more accessible. It also supports the Town's long-term strategies for sustainable growth and enhanced public transportation options.
Residents and visitors are invited to embrace this new mode of transport and explore Cambridge’s coast in a fun, efficient, and environmentally friendly way.
