Above and beyond: Supporting our lifesaving partners

During times of disaster or medical emergencies, the availability of essential transport, rescue, and healthcare services can be the difference between survival and tragedy in regional areas such as the Central Highlands.

Last month, the Central Highlands Regional Council resolved to donate $7,500 each to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) and RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Rachael Cruwys shared how fundamental these organisations have been to her personally.

‘Like so many mothers across our region, I’ve been so thankful that the RFDS was there to help my son,’ Cr Cruwys said.

‘Nothing brings home the incredibly important role the RFDS plays more than sitting alongside your son in the plane’s cabin, knowing the pilot and his crew are the link to getting him to the medical support that those in metropolitan areas have readily available and often take for granted.’

‘Countless lives have been saved since John Flynn first took to the sky in 1928, so if this donation goes somewhat towards saving another, there is no better cause.’

Mayor Janice Moriarty expressed her thanks towards these organisations as well.

‘Council is honoured to support the vital work of these organisations,’ commented Mayor Moriarty.

‘These organisations are lifelines in our region, providing critical medical assistance where it’s needed most.

‘Our contribution is a testament to our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community members, even in the most remote areas.’

This will be the twelfth year council has provided financial and in-kind support to the two charities.

Council also resolved to donate $7,500 to the Heart of Australia program, making this the eighth consecutive year a financial donation has been made to them.

Heart of Australia delivers monthly specialist medical investigation and treatment clinics to regional, rural and remote areas.

‘On behalf of our community, I extend our sincerest gratitude to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service and Heart of Australia,’ continued Mayor Moriarty.

‘Your tireless efforts make a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals.’
