TRC advising residents to plan trips as Bridge, Holberton Streets intersection works start

Residents are being advised to plan their journeys near the Bridge and Holberton Streets intersection in Toowoomba with multiple works projects starting in the vicinity this month (May 2024).
Toowoomba Regional Council’s initial work at the intersection includes upgrades to the Holberton Street water main between Bridge Street and Clearview Street.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said the water main upgrades would improve the area’s water supply reliability.
Water main works will start from Monday, May 20 for three weeks, weather permitting. Stormwater works at the intersection are scheduled to start soon after and will take approximately two weeks to complete.
Holberton Street will be closed to northbound traffic both during and outside of working hours, between Bridge Street and Swallow Court for the duration of the water main works.
During stormwater works, this closure will only be in place during working hours, with Holberton Street to be reopened to northbound traffic outside of working hours.
Local access for residents adjacent to the works will be maintained under controlled conditions.
It is anticipated that portions of the Black Spot Program upgrade will be delivered at the same time as the water main and stormwater works, with completion of the Black Spot works expected early in the second half of this year.
The intersection upgrade will improve safety for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as part of the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, which targets high-crash areas, reducing the risk of accidents and improving safety.
A separate letter regarding the Black Spot Program project will be mailed to residents near the intersection soon.
Council is most appreciative of the funding. In Queensland, the Black Spot Program is administered by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.
Council will ensure traffic management is implemented as required to keep construction workers, road users, pedestrians and cyclists as safe as possible.
