The Town of Cambridge has secured the top position in Western Australia and ranks 12th nationwide for overall wellbeing, according to the SGS Cities & Regions Wellbeing Index (CRWI) findings released in May 2024.
Cambridge’s performance across 2023, with an index score of 6.61, surpasses both Greater Perth (5.6 average) and the rest of WA (4.9 average).
The independent research, developed by consulting group SGS Economics and Planning, evaluates 518 local government areas across Australia on seven key indicators: Economy; Income and Wealth; Employment, Knowledge and Skills; Housing; Health; Equality, Community and Work-life Balance; and Environment.
“We remain committed to our key objectives outlined in our Strategic Community Plan 2023-33 as we aspire to develop a community that supports wellbeing, connection, and inclusivity,” Mayor Gary Mack said.
“As data and analytics continue to evolve, the Town looks forward to leveraging these insights to drive informed decision-making to benefit the local economy, natural and built environment, and local identity.”
The latest CRWI presents a modernised framework to evaluate community outcomes as opposed to the conventional growth-centric narratives. The index focusses on local-level wellbeing trends and performance over time, spotlighting the importance of localised insights in informing impactful policy and investment strategies.
