A tech savvy senior, a lifeguard and a local environmentalist were among the local volunteers recognised for their valuable contribution to the community at the City of Rockingham’s 2024 Volunteer Recognition Evening.
The event was held on Wednesday 15 May at the Gary Holland Community Centre in the lead up to National Volunteer Week (20-26 May).
The City of Rockingham shone a spotlight on 25 outstanding volunteers who had been nominated for recognition by their various local non-for-profit clubs and organisations. The winners were selected by a judging panel featured across six categories.

“It’s because of our volunteers that we have such a vibrant and active community,” Deputy Mayor Buchan said.
From weekend sports, to emergency services, to local events, volunteers are the lifeblood of our community and we’re so grateful to be able to benefit from their passion, time and expertise.This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week is ‘Something for Everyone’. The City of Rockingham is taking the opportunity to showcase the vast spectrum of possibilities available to people wanting to take on a volunteer role, and the positive impacts that emerge when everyone finds their meaningful role in making a difference.
A National Volunteer Week Pop-up event will be held at the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre on Wednesday 22 May from 9.30am-11.30am where prospective volunteers can come along and chat with Rockingham Volunteer Centre (RVC) staff about opportunities best suited to them.
“Volunteering is for everyone and offers so many benefits,” Deputy Mayor Buchan said.
“Meet new people, learn new skills, feel valued and appreciated, and have fun. Whether you're drawn to environmental causes, community services, education or beyond, there's a place where your unique skills and interests can flourish.”
