Free family fun day to celebrate Botanic Gardens Day 2024

Posted on May 20, 2024

To celebrate Botanic Gardens Day 2024, Central Highlands Regional Council will host a free community event at the Emerald Regional Botanic Gardens on Sunday 26 May.

The annual day of celebration highlights the role of plants in people’s lives and the important work botanic gardens undertake every day to conserve them.

‘Sprawling across 42 hectares and with over 9 kilometres of walking trails, the Emerald Regional Botanic Gardens is the crown jewel in our region’s network of parks and open spaces,’ Acting General Manager Communities Leisa Donlan said.

‘We are excited to celebrate the beauty and splendour of this space with the community, and showcase the importance of safeguarding natural treasures for the enjoyment of future generations.’

Botanic Gardens Day is an initiative of peak industry body Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand (BGAUNZ).

‘Council are proud to be an ongoing member of the BGAUNZ network,’ Ms Donlan said.

‘This ensures our parks and gardens team continues to have access to a wealth of expert guidance and resources and reaffirms our position on the national stage, firmly placing the Emerald Regional Botanic Gardens on the official tour map.’

Join in the fun from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm on Sunday 26 May at the Vince Lester Bridge entrance of the Emerald Botanic Gardens.

Thanks to local community groups and businesses, there will be something for everybody!

Browse the stalls with craft activities and face painting for the kids, enjoy the free sausage sizzle and make sure to get there early for limited cupcake and plant giveaways.

Enhance your wellbeing by taking a wander on our guided walks, chatting with the Emerald parkrun team or trying some relaxing yoga in the beautiful surroundings.

Popular indie rock band The Shortfall will also be coming out from Rockhampton to perform, and there will be an orchid display and a variety of food trucks to purchase from.

‘Bring a picnic rug, bring the family and make a day of it!’ said Ms Donlan.
