The Springsure Junior Cricket Club is onto a good wicket with recent upgrades to training facilities at the Springsure Bauhinia Park Showgrounds.
The club was successful in obtaining $5,000 under the sport and recreation category of council’s Community Grants Program.
The funding was put towards a new concrete slab in front of the cricket training nets, improving the safety of the bowler’s run-up (as previously this area was dirt) and increasing the life of the training facility.
‘The upgrades have been amazing for our little community,’ said secretary of the Junior Cricket Club Vivienne Sullivan.
‘We have over 40 kids ranging from 5 years to 18 years of age who train at our facility, so ensuring their safety is our number one priority.
‘We are extremely grateful for the Community Grants Program with council. Without this grant, these upgrades would not have been possible.’
Council’s Community Grants Program assists groups and organisations who positively impact our region to undertake projects that they may otherwise not be able to do.
There are 3 categories that groups can apply under, with the next round set to open in mid-July and closing on 31 August 2024.
