Swing into fun at upgraded Redlands Coast parks

New playground equipment and a Ninja Warrior-inspired obstacle course have been installed at local parks as part of a Redland City Council upgrade program.

Council has finalised works at 10 of the parks and open spaces that were budgeted for upgrades in the 2023-24 financial year, while a further two are scheduled for completion before the end of June.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said thousands of residents would benefit from the upgrades as the works spanned eight mainland suburbs and included some of the most popular parks on Redlands Coast.

“Upgrading the city’s parks and open spaces is just one way we can maintain our naturally wonderful lifestyle on Redlands Coast while helping to get more people active and enjoying the great outdoors,” the Mayor said.

“The improvements being rolled out this financial year include new playground equipment, an obstacle course, landscaping works, drainage, footpaths, seating, shade structures and park signage.

“Minor works have also been completed, including bollard removal and replacement, fencing works, and the installation of new table settings.

“In a first for Redlands Coast, an Omni Warrior obstacle course has been installed at the popular Crotona Road West Park in Capalaba.

“This is an exciting new addition to the park and features a variety of activities that are designed to encourage fun and fitness.”

The Mayor said the upgrades would make weekend and after-school trips to local parks even more enjoyable for families.

“Whether you are a family with young kids or a couple looking to spend some quality time outdoors, there is something for everyone at our parks and open spaces,” she said.

“The majority of upgrade works are expected to be finalised over the coming weeks, meaning many of the new-look parks will be open for families to enjoy during the upcoming school holidays.

“I encourage everyone to spend some time exploring their local park and using the new facilities – all of which have been made possible through your contribution as a ratepayer.

“Since being elected Mayor, I have been having conversations with Council to ensure Redlands Coast residents are receiving value for money from their rates and charges.

“Investing in the places and spaces that contribute to our enviable lifestyle, such as our local parks, is one way Council can achieve this goal.”

This financial year, Redland City Council has budgeted $13 million to upgrade Redlands Coast parks and open spaces. These include:
