Free microchipping a great opportunity for pet owners

Central Highlands Regional Council will offer a free microchipping service next month, as part of an upskilling program for rangers.

The initiative aims to enhance regional compliance with domestic animal regulations and promote responsible pet ownership.

The service will be available for both dogs and cats.

Microchipping is a quick, safe procedure that can improve your pet’s chances of being returned to you if it is lost.

Acting General Manager Communities Leisa Donlan emphasised the importance of this program.

‘We are committed to supporting our community in keeping their pets safe. We strongly encourage all dog and cat owners whose pets are not yet microchipped, to attend one of our clinics,’ she said.

‘Microchipping offers long-term savings and peace of mind. Once you have had your dog implanted, your annual registration fee will be cheaper the following year.’

Council asks all owners to ensure their animals are under effective control when they bring them down for microchipping. Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a suitable transport pod or cage.
