Quarry Amphitheatre Hosts WOW Day Event

The Quarry Amphitheatre played host to a special 'Wear Orange Wednesday' (WOW) event on 22 May 2024 as part of National Volunteer Week. This event celebrated the remarkable efforts and dedication of our State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers across Australia.

In a demonstration for media outlets, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA and SES teams showcased their skills with a thrilling vertical rescue operation. The Quarry Amphitheatre, with its picturesque setting, provided a perfect backdrop for this impressive display.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the SES in WA, making the celebrations even more significant.

Community members were encouraged to wear something orange on the day to show their appreciation for these skilled volunteers, who selflessly respond to natural disasters and emergencies. Additionally, prominent WA landmarks, including Optus Stadium, Matagarup Bridge, Parliament House, Perth Concert Hall, and Kings Park were lit up in orange that night to honour WOW Day.

In the past year, SES volunteers have dedicated more than 18,000 hours responding to nearly 2,000 incidents. They included the devastating floods across the Kimberley in January, while more than 120 volunteers from WA were deployed to the east coast to support flood-affected areas last year.
