Cairns Regional Council has appointed John Andrejic as the interim Chief Executive Officer following a Special Council Meeting today.
Mayor Amy Eden welcomed Mr Andrejic’s appointment which followed an independent, nationwide recruitment drive, panel selection process, and the opportunity for all Councillors to meet the shortlisted candidates.
“We are looking forward to John joining the Council team as the interim CEO, and I’m confident with his background in financial and asset management, along with his understanding of local government, he’ll be ready to get to work from day one,” Mayor Eden said.
“His vast experience will assist the Council’s day-to-day business as well as support more challenging roles including: the delivery of the Council’s budget; addressing the ongoing impacts of December’s floods, and the imminent start of Cairns Water Security Stage 1.”
“We’re fortunate to have a strong group of candidates apply for the interim CEO role, and I thank all of them for their interest.”
Mr Andrejic, who returns to Council following his resignation as CEO in October 2020, was selected from a pool of 32 applicants.
He was previously at Council for seven years, starting as the organisation’s Chief Financial Officer in 2013, before taking on the role of CEO in 2016.
“Having previously spent seven years at Council, I’m excited to be returning to an organisation which feels like home,” Mr Andrejic said.
“I’m looking forward to getting started and working with the community, Councillors and the organisation to deliver for the city.”
The interim CEO role is for a minimum of three months, with the option to extend to a maximum of six months, if required to appoint a permanent CEO.
Mr Andrejic will start as interim CEO in the near future.
