On Thursday, the 23rd of May 2024, the Town of Cambridge held a special function to honour the incredible volunteers who contribute so much to our community. The event was a heartfelt celebration of the dedication, passion, and hard work of volunteers who make a significant impact in various sectors within the Town.

Mayor Gary Mack proudly presented awards to outstanding local organisations, recognising their exceptional contributions. The award for Community Service Organisation of the Year was presented to The Rotary Club of Cambridge. This award celebrates the Rotary Club's ongoing commitment to community service, their impactful projects, and their continuous efforts to improve the lives of those in our community.

The YMCA Coastal City Hockey Club was awarded Community Sporting Club of the Year. This recognition highlights the club's dedication to promoting sports, fostering teamwork, and encouraging healthy lifestyles among its members. The club's commitment to excellence and community spirit has made it a cornerstone of local sporting culture.

In the realm of arts and culture, the award for Community Arts and Culture Organisation of the Year was presented to Wembley Theatre Company. This award underscores the importance of fostering creativity and cultural engagement within the community, and it highlights the significant contributions of local arts organisations in enriching the cultural landscape of the Town of Cambridge.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers who attended the event. Their dedication and selfless service are truly the backbone of the community, making the Town of Cambridge a better place for everyone. Special thanks are extended to Deputy Mayor Ben Mayes, Councillor Kate Barlow, and Councillor Jane Cutler for joining in the celebration and showing their support for the community's heroes.

The event served as a reminder of the profound impact that volunteers have on the community. It was a moment to reflect on the positive changes brought about by their efforts and to encourage continued involvement and support for volunteer initiatives. National Volunteers Week provided the perfect opportunity to shine a light on these unsung heroes and to celebrate their invaluable contributions to the Town of Cambridge.

As part of our ongoing efforts to recognise dedicated volunteers, don't forget to nominate a local hero for our “Spotlight on a Volunteer” program.
