We have lift-off at Emerald Airport Advisory Committee’s first meeting

Last week, the Emerald Airport Advisory Committee convened for the first time following the Local Government Elections in March.
The advisory committee is a forum for engagement, consultation, and communication with airport users, including the local business sector and the community. Advice and recommendations gained in these meetings influence the future of the Emerald Airport. New members on board are Councillors Robert Donaldson, Craig Hindmarsh, and Christopher Whiteman.
Newly appointed Committee Chair, Councillor Robert Donaldson expressed his enthusiasm for leading the committee.
‘The Emerald Airport is an important regional asset, serving as the gateway for air travel to residents, visitors, and businesses,’ he said.
‘Council is committed to ensuring the region’s airport and aerodrome landing areas effectively meet future aviation demands supporting growth. We are focused on the sustainability of this vital regional asset.’
‘One of the important ways council supports the community is by waiving landing fees for medical-related flights, including those provided by the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) and Angel Flight. Over the past 12 months, Emerald Airport has supported over 560 such landings.’ Council is partnering with RFDS and the local Rotary Club in their efforts to raise funds for the construction of a dedicated RFDS aircraft hangar. Council has been successful in the Resources Community Infrastructure Fund to construct a taxiway and apron adjacent to the RFDS patient transfer pod and hangar. The project will commence once funding is received later this year.
