International award-winning, Australian artist Anthony Breslin is bringing his bold, bright, and brilliant artworks to Deniliquin's Peppin Heritage Centre Gallery from June 6th to July 29th, 2024.
Anthony Breslin's work is renowned not only for its vibrant aesthetic but also for the incredible story behind the artist himself. Despite battling multiple life-threatening medical conditions at a young age, Breslin's resilience and gratitude shine through his art. His dedication to inspiring communities across Australia through his art experiences is truly remarkable.
Breslin has a family connection to Deniliquin, and having visited several times is eagerly looking forward to engaging with the local community during the exhibition.
"For me, it's always about the adventure and meeting new people. With Deniliquin, I am looking forward to engaging with the community in a positive way and getting to know local people beyond ‘hello’ by connecting on an artistic and personal level."
Reflecting on the importance of art in rural communities, Breslin noted, "The impact art has on a small community, or any community, depends on the artwork. Artwork that's different and unique can impact the perceptions of the community, and leaving behind a permanent artwork can have an ongoing significant impact, especially if it connects with the local environment in a meaningful way ...beyond having people visit a show."
Breslin's artistic style is described as theatrical. "I would say my work is theatrical; specifically, a form of abstract theatre that encourages the viewer to come up with their own concept of what it means to them. It is not designed to be literal but rather to invigorate the imagination of the viewer."
The engaging nature of Breslin’s bright and intricate works make them a favourite with all ages, and particularly younger people. For young creatives, Breslin offers this advice: "Keep taking risks with your work. Repetition is the only way to evolve your style. See everything in life as a creative process, not just your art-making practice, as that can limit your viewpoint."
Edward River Council Mayor Peta Betts said the Council is thrilled to host such a distinguished and inspiring artist.
“We are really looking forward to having Anthony in our town for a few days at the start of the exhibition. We hope everyone will join us in celebrating Anthony Breslin’s exhibition and take part in a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artist at his opening talk on June 6th.”
A very special ‘Artist Talk’ will be held at the Peppin Heritage Gallery on June 6th, where Breslin will share his journey and insights. This event is free, but with limited capacity, Edward River Council encourages art lovers to reserve their place early.
