Associated and Catholic Colleges Cross Country Carnival Excellence

On 30 May 2024, the ACC Cross Country Carnival brought together over 3,500 participants for a thrilling day of athletic competition and camaraderie. The event, held annually since 1966, saw students from all ACC schools competing on the same day, maintaining a long-standing tradition of sportsmanship and school spirit.

This year's carnival was particularly notable for Sacred Heart, who emerged as the Overall Aggregate Champions. Their victory marks a significant achievement, showcasing the dedication and hard work of their students and coaching staff. The triumph was celebrated with much enthusiasm, reflecting the high standards and competitive spirit that Sacred Heart has consistently demonstrated.

The ACC Cross Country Carnival is unique in its non-divisional format, inviting all schools to compete together rather than in separate divisions. Traditionally held on the Thursday before the WA Day long weekend in June, the event fosters a sense of unity and inclusiveness among participating schools. The scoring system is based on placings, with the school with the lowest overall score winning, promoting both individual excellence and team effort. To qualify for overall aggregate trophies, schools must have a minimum of three runners complete the course within the prescribed cut-off time for all events in an age group.

The top three place-getters in each race are awarded medallions, and the top five place-getters are selected for the honorary All Star team, encouraging students to strive for excellence. A maximum of six competitors per gender age group may run for an individual school, with the exception of the Open (U19) age group, where eight runners are allowed per event.

The 2024 ACC Cross Country Carnival was a testament to the enduring spirit of competition and community within the ACC schools. The enthusiastic participation of students and the collaborative efforts of all involved made the event a fantastic celebration of athletic excellence and school spirit. As participants and spectators look forward to next year's carnival, the legacy of this year's achievements will undoubtedly inspire future generations of runners.
