Cambridge Receives $655k Lotterywest Grant for Floreat SLSC Upgrades

The Town of Cambridge is pleased to announce it has been awarded a grant of up to $655,000 from Lotterywest to support the redevelopment of the Floreat Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC).

This funding will enhance the club's rescue service capabilities and boost community participation in its activities.  It follows the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ recent grant of up to $655,000, which focused on accessibility improvements such as the installation of an accessible front door and universal access toilets with showers.

The redevelopment project aims to upgrade the Floreat SLSC’s facilities, ensuring it meets high standards for rescue response and community engagement. The improved infrastructure will include new equipment, better training facilities for lifesavers, and expanded spaces for community events and educational programmes.

Mayor Gary Mack expressed his enthusiasm for the grant and the positive impact the project will have in fostering a safer and more connected community.

“This funding is crucial for the Floreat SLSC and the Cambridge community. It will improve the club’s rescue services and encourage more community involvement in lifesaving activities and beach safety education,” Mayor Mack said.

Floreat SLSC President Cathy McIntyre feels the timing is perfect with the growth that Floreat SLSC has experienced over the past five years and the diverse opportunities available within surf lifesaving.

“Receiving this grant is a fantastic opportunity for the club to be all-inclusive and to support both our members and the wider community,” Ms McIntyre said.

“Our club is grateful and appreciates the support that has been given by the Town, Lotterywest, and the State Government. We cannot wait for the next phase of our club upgrade to begin.”

The grant from Lotterywest supports community-based projects that enhance public safety and community cohesion. The redevelopment project is set to begin later this year, with a projected completion date in 2025.
