Liverpool City Council has acted promptly and out of concern for its staff, staff members working on levels five and six of the 33 Moore Street Counciln Building have reported thyroid cancer over the last three to five years.
Four people have reported having thyroid cancer and have consented to being part of an investigation by the NSW Department of Health. One person has reported thyroid cancer while another has reported a thyroid condition but have not consented to be part of the investigation.Having reported the issue to the NSW Department of Health, it’s also been decided to relocate those currently working on level 6 of the 33 Moore Street Building to level 4 while Council investigates the matter. The decision to relocate staff is in response to Council’s high level of concern for the welfare of its staff.Council takes this very seriously and future action will be based on the results of two concurrent investigations.· The Council has engaged a third-party environmental health consultant and the NSW Department of Health is undertaking an epidemiological investigation. We will continue to keep all staff members informed as we received further information.Staff have also been advised they can have leave to seek their own medical advice should they have any concerns. Our thoughts are with those affected and we wish them a prompt recovery.
