The fortnightly collection of recycling bins in the Burnie City Council region will permanently change to the opposite week from 1 July 2024. The collection of landfill bins will continue unchanged on a weekly basis.
The change means residents’ landfill (general waste) and recycling bins will now be collected in the first week of every fortnight, instead of the second week of every fortnight.
To make the transition a little easier, residents will enjoy an additional recycling collection by being able to put their recycling bin out for collection in the two consecutive weeks commencing 24 June and 1 July.
There is no change in the day of the week bins are collected so if, for example, residents put their bins out for collection on a Monday, then they should continue to put their bins out on a Monday, but they must switch the week they put their recycling bins out from 1 July.
Burnie residents will soon receive a printed Kerbside Collection Transition Calendar in their residential post-box detailing the change. The calendar includes dates for landfill and recycling collection from 24 June until 2 August.
The change is due to the Council’s waste services provider Veolia reworking its schedule across Tasmania’s North-West region.
Council’s waste management partner North-West Resource Recovery and Recycling (NWRRR) is coordinating the schedule change across the region and residents with any questions can contact NWRRR by emailing [email protected] or by calling (03) 6427 4646.
