Central Highlands Regional Council will receive $19 million from the Federal Government to improve the safety of roads in the region as part of the Roads to Recovery (RTR) Program.      The announcement was made on Friday 31 May 2024, with council securing $19,053,273 for the five-year funding period from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2029.      The new funding is an increase of 76% compared to the previous $10.8 million. This means that the council will receive $3.8 million each year as opposed to the current $2.1 million.      Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Janice Moriarty was pleased to receive the news.

‘This $19 million is on top of the almost $4 million Works for Queensland Funding council received recently from the State Government for road improvements’.

It really seems that the Federal and State Government have been listening,’ she said.

‘We drive on our rural and town roads every day for school, for sport, and to go to work. Better and safer roads are also vital for visitors to our region.

The Roads to Recovery (RTR) Program, funded by the Australian Government, is delivered by local governments in partnership with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts under the National Land Transport Act 2014.
