The skate park has been a long running project for the Town, first conceived when a group of young locals brought a proposal for a skate park in Cottesloe to Council back in 2017.

Over the following years the Town worked steadily on the project, consulting with the community at various stages along the way.

In early 2023 the Town was successful in securing a $743,900 grant from Lotterywest. This grant funding, which covered the cost of construction of the skate park, enabled the Town to start the process of bringing this project to life for our community.

Following a tender process the Town engaged PHASE3 Landscape Construction to develop detailed concept plans and drawings and, with Skate Sculpture and Common Ground Trails, construction of the skate park commenced in late 2023.

Town of Cottesloe Mayor Lorraine Young said, “We are thrilled to announce the completion of the skate park and that this brand new recreational space is now open and ready to be experienced by our community.

“I would like thank the many people who have been involved in this project, with a very special thank you to Lotterywest who, through their support and grant funding, allowed the Town to make the idea of a skate park in Cottesloe a reality.

“Through early consultation on this project the Town received strong support from the community and we are pleased to deliver another outdoor space for children, young people and families to use and enjoy for the future.”

The Cottesloe skate park includes a bowl, a plaza area, a hang-out area and a pump track.

The Town of Cottesloe will continue to work with Cottesloe Coastcare and Perth NRM on the revegetation of John Black Dune Park. Staged revegetation will include planting native and waterwise plants around the skate park, providing additional public open space for the community.

The skate park was officially opened by Mayor Lorraine Young on Saturday, 8 June 2024, with deputy Mayor Helen Sadler assisting with cutting the ribbon.

Thank you to Kate Chaney MP, Dr David Honey MLA, Dr Katrina Stratton MLA, Member for Nedlands (representing David Templeman - Minister for Culture and the Arts; Sport and Recreation; International Education; Heritage) and Roz Lipscombe from Lotterywest for joining the Town for the soft opening.

The Town will hold a celebratory community event at the skate park in the coming months. Stay tuned!
