The Emerald Gymnastics and Trampoline Club’s 400-plus athletes are enjoying cooler classes thanks to a $12,000 boost from council’s community grants program.
The grant allowed the club to install a new roller door entry and a large outdoor shade cover to their home at the Emerald Indoor Sports Complex. The project was completed by local building contractor, GKM Building Services.
‘The upgrades to the facility have helped tremendously with the airflow through the venue, which has lowered the temperature inside – everyone (especially our athletes) appreciates this immensely,’ Head Coach Sue Fehlhaber said.
‘The shade cover allows more parents to view their child at class in a sun safe area.’
Ms Fehlhaber said the club has over 400 athletes enrolled, and runs classes 6 days a week, Monday to Saturday.
‘We cater for ages from one to adult. Our programs include Kindergym for ages 1-5, Recreational, WAG (Women’s Artistic Gymnastics), MAG (Men’s Artistic Gymnastics), Acrobatics and Trampoline,’ she said.
‘The club is important to the community as it is held indoors and operates 12 months of the year. Our kids are definitely active to say the least!’
Ms Fehlhaber acknowledged that gymnastics teaches kids fundamental movement patterns, which are the foundation for all sports, as well as instilling goal-setting, instruction-following, and self-confidence which are essential life skills.
‘The club is extremely appreciative to Central Highlands Regional Council for their generosity through the community grants program – and also, being such a smooth application process,’ she said.
Council’s Community Grants Program assists groups and organisations who positively impact our region to undertake projects that they may otherwise not be able to do.
There are 3 categories that groups can apply under, with the next round set to open in mid-July and closing on 31 August 2024.
