With voting set to close for the 2024 Top Tourism Town Awards, Mayor Kate Makin is urging residents to vote before it’s too late.
“I encourage friends, family and relatives to do the same,” Cr Makin said.
“The public vote forms 25% of the score so every vote is needed to be competitive against larger municipalities and towns on the edge of Melbourne.”
The judged elements, which include a promotional video, magazine article, travel photography and itinerary, form 75% of the score and can be viewed and compared on the voting page. Winners in each category progress to a national final to decide Australia's top tourism towns.
The soundtrack for the video is Lisztomania’s "317", a song that was written by band members while at Timboon P12 school.
“We are proud to have used local talent Lisztomania in our submission and are confident the quality of our entry will give us a very good chance at a state level,” she said.
“We just need a good vote result to get us over the line so we can take them to a larger audience at the national finals.”
Lisztomania lead guitarist Willow Smith said it was a “crazy wonderful experience” for band members to revisit one of the first songs they wrote and then see it used in celebration of the town where it all started.
"It was so exciting to be able to use audio engineering skills from uni in the remaster of "317" for this project”
“We’ve all grown so much since this song came out and it’s amazing how we can still keep on bringing new life to it," she said.
Voting closes at 5 pm, Monday 24 June with winners to be announced in late July. https://www.vtic.com.au/toptourismtown/2024finalists/
