The 2024 NSW budget has measures that need to be focussed on South West Sydney, according to Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun.
“Liverpool Council stands ready as always to help the state and federal governments grow South Western Sydney,’ Mayor Mannoun said.
“New funding to hire more state government planners and invest in technology to speed the assessment of development applications is welcome,” Mayor Mannoun said.
“Liverpool council recently cleared a backlog of nearly 700 historic development applications (from 967 to 286), so we have cleared the decks for action – because we want our city to grow,” he said.
“We also look forward to some of those new bus routes coming our way and are on standby to process Development Applications when Liverpool’s essential workers get some of the budgeted 400 build-to-rent apartments.
“From a quick read the school at Austral is getting an upgrade – but what about the roads that parents need to get their kids to and from schools?
“There are many road building and associated infrastructure projects that need to be completed if the area is going to be ready for the opening of Western Sydney International Airport in 18 months time.
“These seem to be missing from this latest budget and we will be taking this up with the State Government.
Mayor Mannoun said he had a list of priority transport projects that urgently need funding:
15th Avenue is the main thoroughfare to the airport and is currently a two lane goat track that needs the federal and state governments to provide overdue funding a much needed express rail service from Liverpool to the city or even Parramatta we also need an express service from Liverpool to Bankstown to link up with the new MetroLiverpool stands ready to work with the state and federal governments to ensure the success of Western Sydney International Airport,” Mayor Mannoun said.
