Media Release – Central Coast Council announces changes to some resident’s recycling collection sche…

The Central Coast Council (the Council) would like to inform the community that from July 2024, the entire municipal area will move to the same fortnightly collection schedule. This means Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) bins will be collected one week, and General Waste and Recycling bins will be collected the alternate week within the fortnight.

Residents impacted by the change will receive a transition calendar in the mail that outlines their new recycling collection schedule. The areas impacted include Penguin, West Ulverstone, Howth, Sulphur Creek, Turners Beach and most of Ulverstone.

To reduce any inconvenience to services, an additional recycling collection will occur for affected areas on the week commencing 24 June 2024.

Mayor Cheryl Fuller, Central Coast Council said:

“This change will only be for those who normally have their recycling bins collected on the same day as their FOGO bins. From July 2024, your recycling bins will start being collected at the same time as your General Waste bins.”

“Residents who already have their recycling bins collected on the same day as their General Waste bins will have no changes to their schedule.” She said.

This change to the Kerbside Collection Schedule is due to the Council joining the North West Resource Recovery & Recycling (NWRRR) group, to align with other neighbouring Council’s who are introducing FOGO. 

Mayor Cheryl Fuller said that the Council was happy to accommodate for these changes and welcomes its neighbouring Councils to the FOGO network.  

“The state waste levies mean the cost of using landfill is increasing. By using our recycling and FOGO bins correctly, we can achieve substantial cost savings for Councils and residents across the region. We look forward to working alongside our neighbours to divert more waste from entering landfill.” Said Cr Cheryl Fuller, Mayor Central Coast Council.
