Residents are reminded to have their say on the idea of relocating Werribee Library from Watton Street to the Hunter Building on Synnot Street, Werribee to meet the needs of our growing library community.
The Hunter Building is the tallest building in Werribee and Wyndham City proposes converting the seventh floor into a library, that will offer four times more space than is available at the current library.
The increased space will allow inclusion of more computers for public use, study rooms, multi-use activity and program rooms and dedicated youth and children’s spaces.
More room will boost the number of visitors to the library at any one time from 60 to 200 people, making it possible to increase attendance at popular programs such as Rhyme Time and Craft & Conversation.
The Hunter Building is also centrally located, closer to the Werribee Train Station and offers free 3 hr parking.
Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Jennie Barrera said the community has outgrown the current Werribee Library
“Libraries are more than just places where people borrow books, magazines and other items they are vibrant spaces where people connect.”
“We’d be able to offer more people the opportunity to attend programs, expanding attendance to fit the increased space.”
“We’re fortunate to have an alternative space close to shops, parks and other services – and that remains in our City Centre.”
“It’s a modern building, filled with light from the floor to ceiling windows that offer views across Wyndham, it also features the impressive First Nations large scale mural, Mooroop Yarkeen, which translates to ‘Spirit Dreaming’.”
