Calling all green thumbs! It’s time to don your gardening gloves and do something good for nature and your community as part of National Tree Day 2024.
Wyndham City is hosting a Community Planting Event on Sunday 28 July and will be planting 3000 trees at Cambridge Reserve and surrounds.
Hoppers Crossing Rotary will be providing a free BBQ lunch and there will also be a coffee van and information stalls on site.
Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Jennie Barrera, encouraged all Wyndham residents to join in.
“This is a great opportunity to reconnect with nature, help cool the climate, provide homes for native wildlife and make your local community a happier and healthier place to live,” Cr Barrera said.
“Over 26 million trees have been planted across Australia by volunteers since National Tree Day first began in 1996 and we are excited to support the goal of getting another million native plants in the ground this year.”
Wyndham City’s Climate Futures and Environment portfolio holder, Councillor Robert Szatkowski, added: “Through events such as these, our annual tree planting program and our commitment to have at least one tree planted in every suitable nature strip by the year 2030, we’re on track to making Wyndham greener.”
The National Tree Day Community Planting Event will be held between 10am and 12pm on Sunday 28 July at 47 Dowling Avenue, Hoppers Crossing. Bring your own gloves and weather appropriate clothing.
This project is supported by the Victorian Government’s More Trees for a Cooler, Greener West initiative.
