EasyPark comes to Fremantle

Paying for parking in Fremantle is getting even easier, with the roll out of Australia’s most used parking app, EasyPark, from 1 July 2024.

Drivers using any City-operated on-street or off-street car bays across Fremantle will soon be able to use the award winning pay-by-phone system.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said EasyPark is a highly recognisable brand.

"EasyPark is used by more than 70 Councils and parking operators across Australia and a dozen local governments in Perth.

"Half a million people in the greater Perth metropolitan region already have the EasyPark app installed on their smartphone, which is about one in four people.

"The app is convenient and reliable. I believe it will improve the visitor experience in Fremantle, making it even easier for people to park and positively influencing their decision to return.

"It also saves time and money, because the app has a map so you don’t have to go looking for parking meters and you only pay for the time used. You can also avoid parking fines by extending your parking session (within the time limit permitted) by phone from wherever you are," Mayor Fitzhardinge said.

EasyPark replaces the existing pay-by-phone platform, PayStay, which was introduced in March 2019.

The City of Fremantle is also installing 117 new pay-by-plate parking meters later in the year, which will replace the current pay-and-display paper ticket machines.

Director of City Business Matt Hammond said the current parking ticket machines are reaching the end of their operational life.

"The current parking ticket machines are 10 years old and working on the 3G network which will be switched off later this year.

"Customers using our parking facilities will have two intuitive and user-friendly options: pay-by-phone or pay-by-plate," Mr Hammond said.

While EasyPark will make parking in Fremantle more convenient, those preferring to pay in cash can still do so in most carparks and at more than half of the on-street parking bays.

As well as new street signage with usage instructions, the City of Fremantle will also advise people of the new system via physical and digital media and other information channels in the coming months.

Permit-holders will receive instructions to assist their transition to the new system.

The City of Fremantle operates approximately 1,400 street bays and 2,300 car park bays in the city centre.
