Charters Towers Regional Council adopted the 2024-25 Budget at its Statutory Budget Meeting held today. 

The detailed budget incorporates strategic funding distributions for significant projects designed to promote growth and improve the regions infrastructure.

Mayor Liz Schmidt said “This year’s budget is titled ‘Investing for a Stronger Tomorrow’ as our highest budget priority remains ensuring the long-term sustainability and prosperity of our Region.

“The 2024-2025 budget focuses on sustained investment in maintaining and enhancing essential infrastructure, while taking into account the economic circumstances affecting our Region and the implications for our ratepayers, residents, and businesses.

“Council will continue to prioritise maintaining and renewing our current ageing infrastructure and delivering the best possible services to the community within our budgetary limitations.

Key highlights of the budget include:

Many of the community’s shared open spaces will be upgraded, including the replacement of furniture and equipment at Lissner Park. Pentland community public, sport and recreation amenities refurbishment. The road network improvement program including Valley of Lagoons floodway upgrades, Myola Road upgrade, and Dotswood Road reseal.

In addition to the allocated funding initiatives, several major projects are planned for the 2024-25 financial year with the objective of advancing development and addressing the changing needs of the region.  

Key projects include: 

DRFA Restoration works on regional road network - $50m Infrastructure operations (including roads) - $6.17m Water Assurance Project - $1.3m Community and Council facilities capital works - $1.7m Water supply network and sewerage network infrastructure renewals - $3.35m

“The Budget also accounts for several other crucial items, including the replacement of ageing large fleet, development of a Charters Towers CBD Master Plan and Pentland Community Master Plan, Water Supply Network improvements, the commencement of water reticulation duplication and reservoir upgrades and improvement works to the Burdekin Weir.

“This budget demonstrates our dedication to addressing the changing needs of our residents and advancing the overall prosperity of the Charters Towers Region", continued Mayor Schmidt.
