Coolgardie is showcasing its strong sense of community spirit through the launch of the Coolgardie Food Pantry. The pantry, established six months ago, has seen numerous community members make generous donations. At the end of each day, the shelves are often bare, highlighting the pantry's vital role in supporting residents.
This initiative is a joint effort between the community group Coolgardie Helping Hands, the Coolgardie Community Men's Shed, and the Coolgardie Recreation Centre. It aims to provide support to residents grappling with the high cost of living and to remind everyone that no one in Coolgardie has to face tough times alone.
Located in the undercover area behind the Coolgardie Recreation Centre, the food pantry is open from Monday to Friday, 8 am – 4 pm.
The initiative calls on residents to contribute to this community effort. Donations of non-perishable items such as canned fish and vegetables, fruit, pasta, rice, pasta sauces, long-life milk or cream, baked beans, spaghetti, and 2-minute noodles are greatly appreciated.
The guiding principle of the food pantry is simple but profound: "Please take what you need & leave what you can." This reflects the community's commitment to supporting one another and demonstrates how small acts of kindness can have a significant impact.
