A Business Case which aims to push the case for external funding for the $270 million Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project was this week handed to the Queensland State Government by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC).
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald visited the State Government offices at 1 William Street in Brisbane on Thursday to hand over the extensive document to Queensland Premier Steven Miles.
Mayor McDonald said the Business Case was the key supporting document by which the State Government would consider TRC’s request for funding assistance on the project.
“I’m pleased Premier Miles made the time to officially receive the Business Case for the Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project at 1 William Street this week.
“Council developed the Business Case at the request of the State Government following our continued advocacy for funding to support the project’s delivery.
“The reality is, we have delayed a number of critical projects for our Region because of the requirement on TRC to deliver this one project, having committed $110.6 million in our 2024/25 Budget for this project alone.
“Our ratepayers should not have to bear the full cost of this project which ultimately protects landholders outside of the Toowoomba Region.
“I look forward to the State Government closely examining TRC’s Business Case to come up with a fair funding package for the delivery of this project,” Mayor McDonald said.
The Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project, which is legislated by the State Government, will improve dam safety at Cressbrook Dam and ensure the dam remains a reliable and quality water supply for our Region.
The project will widen the dam spillway to increase flood resilience and protect landholders downstream in the Somerset Regional Council area (Cressbrook Creek, including Toogoolawah).
