A journal writing program targeting teenagers is currently being rolled out in the Federation Council.
Federation Council Mayor Cr Pat Bourke said, “Young people are the future of our community. This is an exciting project, bringing together service agencies, local schools and the Council to support improved positive health and wellbeing”.
“The program aims to provide teenagers with an opportunity to build on their health and wellbeing through journaling.“
“Five schools are undertaking the pilot program. Corowa High School, Oaklands Central School, Urana Public School, Corowa South Public School and Corowa Public School,” he said.
Big Life journals are being allocated to students in nominated classes within the schools between years five to ten.
Big life Journals are science-based journals, providing engaging activities, inspiring stories and colourful illustrations to support the building and development of growth mindset skills in:
Self esteem Resilience Love of learning Lessen fear of failure Taking on challenges Self-love Gratitude.“Journals are places for us to reflect on our lives, what has happened to us and how we reacted.” (Big Life)
The Federation Primary Prevention Team received $5,000 funding through the NSW Health Community Drug Action Team’s (CDAT) program. The Federation CDAT aims to better equip the local community with an understanding of how to improve their own health and wellbeing; understanding of risky behaviours, impacts and how to avoid these; and advocating that help is available when needed.
