Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is inviting community members to offer their views on the Region’s draft Youth Strategy 2025-2030 until Friday, August 2, 2024.
TRC Community Development, Facilities and Tourism portfolio spokesperson Cr James O’Shea said the new strategy was an important guiding document that would engage residents from 12 to 24 who live, learn, work and play across the Region’s communities.
“I encourage community members to take this opportunity to review the strategy and provide input,” Cr O’Shea said.
“Extensive research was conducted in 2023, consulting with our Region’s young people, families and the youth sector to ensure we were well informed when identifying the priority areas for the new strategy.
“This round of consultation will provide the broader community an opportunity to have their say on creating a connected Region where young people actively shape the future of our communities.
“The intent of the strategy is to be a living document, structured around four interlinked goals including: inclusion and participation, connections and wellbeing, experiences and diversity, plus services and support systems.
“The strategy will provide a framework for youth engagement, guiding Council’s work for the next five years, while defining the role local government can play to support young people across our Region.
“There are 30,000 young people living in the Toowoomba Region who are an integral part of our community. This is why it is important for Council to recognise the contribution and talents that our young people provide in their communities and include these features as part of our long-term decision making.”
