Queensland Training Awards – CQ Regional Finals Announced!

Posted on July 12, 2024

The 2024 Queensland Training Awards (QTA) Central Queensland (CQ) Regional Finals were held in Gladstone on Saturday 6 July 2024. The prestigious awards recognise individuals and organisations that have achieved success, best practice and innovation in vocational education and training (VET).

Central Highlands Regional Council employees, Sheree Chant (Coordinator Training and Development), Sarah Thomson (Training and Development Officer), and Callie Eadie (Training and Development Officer) joined finalists and their supporters from across the CQ region to acknowledge and recognise the incredible efforts being undertaken to develop and retain local employees through VET pathways.

After successfully completing a traineeship with council within the training and development team, Callie Eadie’s nomination and her achievements saw her recognised as a finalist in the “Equity Student of the Year” category.

Though she was not an official winner on the night, Callie remains a winner in council’s eyes – well done Callie!

In fantastic news, Central Highlands Regional Council successfully won the ‘Large Employer of the Year’ category for the Central Queensland Training Awards!

‘Training is an extraordinary part of our future, it’s about bringing forward young people,’ said Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ross Musgrove.

‘It’s just not about awards, this is about growing our own and training people for our future.’

Mayor Janice Moriarty congratulated Sheree, Sarah and Callie, and the Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC) on participating in the Training Awards and for their successful achievements.

‘Winning this award is a significant accomplishment for council and highlights the hard work, dedication and professionalism of staff.’

‘Employing and training locals is a priority for council, and I hope winning this award will attract more people to choose CHRC as a preferred employer,’ said Mayor Moriarty.

Winners from each of the 7 regions will face a second round of judging before heading to Brisbane on 7 September where the state winners will be announced.
