Wyndham City and Victoria Police will undertake enforcement of all aspects of road safety outside schools as part of ‘Operation School Safe’ this month.
Drivers are reminded that children will return to school for Term 3 from 15 July and to drive safely within school zones.
Driver behaviour that will come under the spotlight will include legal parking when dropping and picking kids up, ensuring seat belts are worn, observing the speed limit outside schools amongst other enforcement matters.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Jennie Barrera said children being able to go to and from school safely was a priority.
“When school commences, we have more children walking, riding, and being dropped off and picked up by buses, it is important for drivers to be aware of their surroundings and obey the road rules.”
“Drivers need to be respectful and obey crossing supervisors and watch for children who may be walking or riding to school."
"This 2024 operation supports our Keep Them Safe Outside the School Gate campaign.”
