Wyndham City is excited to announce the beginning of improvement works at the K Road Cliffs within the Werribee Park Tourism Precinct.
This $32.2 million project, executed in two stages, will enhance this area of cultural and natural importance, and improve the experience of visitors to the Precinct.
The first stage of construction, starting in mid-2024 and expected to conclude by early 2025, will focus on essential enhancements, including significant drainage works to mitigate erosion along the cliffs of the Werribee River in the K Road Cliffs area.
The Werribee River forms a natural boundary between the traditional lands of the Wadawurrung and Bunurong peoples.
A new cliff-top walking path with lookout points will provide breathtaking views of the river.
The project also includes a staircase leading down to the river, a new car park, a picnic shelter, and some interpretive signage.
Following the completion of the first stage, the second stage will commence, focusing on the reconstruction of 2.8 kilometres of K Road, between Duncans Road and the K Road Cliffs.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Jennie Barrera, said enhancements will improve the visitor experience and tourism in the area.
“The K Road Cliffs hold a special place in the heart of Werribee South, serving as one of its most unique natural assets,” Cr Barrera said.
“We’re excited to activate this site, whilst addressing the erosion concerns and creating a space for locals and visitors to enjoy.”
These essential works form part of the K Road Cliffs Masterplan, which is committed to enhancing the beauty and functionality of the area.
Wyndham City thanks the State Government for its $1.5 million contribution and Melbourne Water for their $25,000 contribution.
