Brisbane Biodiversity Seminar: Flight for Survival

Tuesday, September 10, 2024, 5:30 – 8:30pm Brisbane City Council is committed to keeping Brisbane clean, green and sustainable, and values your help in protecting more than 2500 plant and animal species that make Brisbane the most biodiverse capital city in Australia.The Brisbane Biodiversity Seminars present guest speakers on the city's unique plant and animal species and other environmental topics. Join us in-person or online to learn about recent research and projects and what more we can be doing to conserve Brisbane's bird species.This event will take place at Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre and will also be Live Streamed online via MS Teams.Guest speakers:Professor Hugh PossinghamConservation scientist and mathematician in the university, public and not-for profit sectors. In 2016 appointed Chief Scientist at The Nature Conservancy, a global conservation organisation, and from 2020-22 he was the Queensland Chief Scientist.Dr Carly Campbell:Research Associate in Conservation Ecology at QUT specialising in research informing conservation outcomes for Australian urban bird communities.Cass Gaisford:A project delivery manager within the Oxley Creek Transformation Project at Brisbane Sustainability Agency, with extensive experience coordinating environmental rehabilitation and public open space projects.  Event Schedule: 5:30pm: Doors open 6:00pm - Seminar commences 6:05pm - 6:35pm: Dr Carly Campbell - 'Big changes in Australia's backyard birds' 6:35pm - 7:05pm: Professor Hugh Possingham - 'Prioritising conservation actions and monitoring for Brisbane' 7:05pm - 7:25pm: Cass Gaisford, Brisbane Sustainability Agency - 'Nature based recreation projects in the Archerfield Wetlands' 7:30pm - 8:15pm: Cup of tea and mingle for finish at 8:15pm 8:30pm - Venue closed.
