Project Background
Burnie Arts is a cultural hub serving Burnie and North West Tasmania. Recent upgrades to improve Burnie Arts have created new and reinvigorated spaces for performing arts, a gallery and museum, events and functions.
Construction work is well underway for the Burnie Arts building, with an exciting and vibrant, arts and cultural centre emerging.
We are now looking at how we can improve the outdoor spaces for entertainment, learning and celebration of the arts.
About
As a key component of the Burnie City Centre Urban Plan, the redeveloped plaza and landscaped areas will provide places for entertainment and relaxation. Through initiatives in the Urban Plan, it will also have better connections to the waterfront and shopping areas.
The space outside Burnie Arts is designed to be flexible for a range of activities. There is an opportunity to include:
A stage for outdoor performances Amphitheatre seating An ochre bowl for celebrating our indigenous culture Smart technologies and plug in networks to enable markets and events Open spaces and lawn areas for seating and activities More trees, planting and greenery Children’s play area Better signage for locals and visitors Disabled ramp access between the building and accessible parking bays Bus bays and drop off area for coaches
This is our chance to shape this area together. We want to hear from you.
What do you love about these ideas?
What do you wish was included that isn’t there?
Is there anything you wonder about for the future?
