Final works associated with the Federal Government-funded Kerang CBD Redevelopment will occur from next week, focusing on Victoria Street outside Walkers IGA.

The multi-year project, funded by the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, has seen significant improvements occur throughout the Kerang central business district, with visitors and businesses now benefiting from these upgrades.

“It has been amazing to see how the Kerang CBD has transformed during the last few years, with this exciting project nearing its completion,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“These improvements have not only beautified Fitzroy, Scoresby, Victoria and Wellington Streets, but have attracted more pedestrians to these areas.  Footpath pavement upgrades to replace uneven pavers with concrete and remove tripping hazards has improved accessibility to businesses and services within the CBD, benefiting both customers and retailers along these streets.”

As part of the final section of work, new paving and garden beds will be installed along the western section of Victoria Street between Scoresby Street and the Walkers IGA car park from Monday, 29 July to Friday, 2 August.

“These additional works will occur following feedback from business owners in this area, and IGA will remain open throughout the works.” Mr Rollinson said.

Planting of new vegetation within garden areas at the corner of Fitzroy and Wellington Streets will occur after Lower Murray Water have completed the replacement of their water main.

“The completion of this garden space will open up this area, creating a new location for visitors to relax whilst exploring Kerang’s main streets,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Council thanks shoppers and business owners for their understanding as these much-needed improvements are completed.”
